The first half of the film, is totally nihilistic, sometimes think of the "Cross of Iron" by Sam Peckinpah, and "Requiem for a Massacre" by Elem Klimov. Everything contributes to this feeling of agony of humanity, the mud, the visions of gore, the characters exhausted both mentally and physically, and the absolute hard-line position battles, we are plunging with credibility in a world in which the slightest weakness needs to be set aside. In this respect, clashes between armoured tanks are the best I've ever seen on the screen, the virtuosity of the work is combining the speed and brutality of the impacts. To personify the ambivalence of this group of soldiers, men become animals over the dead heaped up on their way - but for whom we feel compassion, it was a group of actors as talented as able to immerse themselves in the roles ungrateful. In the film's star, Brad Pitt does wonders to the point of disappearing behind his character.
